Overview: Migration (Free)

Jan 20, 2026 | Knowledge Base

WPvivid Backup Plugin (Free) includes built-in site migration capabilities designed to help users transfer a WordPress site from one environment to another efficiently and safely. Migration in WPvivid focuses on moving site data as a whole, ensuring consistency between the source site and the destination site.

The migration feature is suitable for common scenarios such as changing hosting providers, moving from a staging or development environment to production, or cloning a site for testing purposes.

What Is Migration in WPvivid?

Migration in WPvivid refers to the process of copying and restoring a WordPress site—including its database and WordPress files—onto another WordPress installation.

Unlike manual migration methods that require database exports, FTP uploads, and configuration changes, WPvivid automates most of the underlying operations while keeping control within the WordPress admin interface.

In the free version, migration is accomplished through:

  • 1. Automatic Transfer:
Fast and simple way to migrate a site between two WordPress installations.
  • 2. Manual Transfer:
More reliable option when automatic migration encounters connection, permission, or server issues.
Note
In both methods, WPvivid must be installed on both the source site and the destination site.

Scope of Migration

WPvivid migration supports transferring the following site components:

  • 1. WordPress database
  • 2. WordPress core files
  • 3. WordPress content
  • 4. Themes
  • 5. Plugins
  • 6. Uploads

Users can migrate the entire site or choose to transfer only the WordPress files or the database, depending on the selected migration content.

Migration Modes in WPvivid Free

WPvivid Backup Free provides two migration approaches that serve different environments and requirements:

Auto-Migration

This mode establishes a temporary connection between two WordPress sites and transfers data directly from the source site to the destination site.
Key characteristics:

  • 1. No need to manually download or upload backup files.
  • 2. Requires both sites to be accessible and properly connected.

Manual Upload Migration

This mode uses WPvivid backup archives as the migration medium.
Key characteristics:

  • 1. Site data is packaged as backup files.
  • 2. Backups can be downloaded, uploaded, and restored.
  • 3. More flexible and resilient in restricted hosting environments.

Typical Use Cases

WPvivid migration is commonly used in the following scenarios:

  • 1. Moving a WordPress site to a new hosting provider
  • 2. Migrating a site to a new domain
  • 3. Deploying a development or staging site to a live environment
  • 4. Creating a temporary copy of a site for testing or troubleshooting

To reduce conflicts, migration is designed to work best when:

  • 1. The destination site is a fresh or unused WordPress installation
  • 2. Caching, firewall, or security restrictions are minimized during migration

Summary

WPvivid Backup Free migration provides a reliable, backup-driven approach to transferring WordPress sites. By combining direct site transfer and backup-based restoration, it offers flexibility for both simple and constrained hosting environments.

Rather than focusing on individual files or database tables, WPvivid migration treats the site as a complete unit—helping ensure consistency, stability, and ease of recovery during site moves.
